Author Interview

Author interview questions

Tell everyone who you are and a little bit about yourself.

Hey ya’ll! I’m April Moran and I live on Florida’s Gulf Coast. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 32 years. Dogs, horses, rock-n-roll concerts and traveling with friends and our daughter and son-in-law are just a few of my favorite things. But writing romance books is the top of the list!

How many books have you written?

4, if you count my story for The Girl Power Collection!

When did you start writing?

Officially in 2017 but I’ve penning stories since I was in elementary school.

What made you attempt to become an author?

When I closed my beach wedding planning and photography business after 13 years, my husband said if I wanted to write, I should go for it. It was time to follow my dream so here I am!

Who is an author you admire?

There are so many! Two that come to mind have become dear friends. Michelle Windsor and Cin Medley. I adore those two ladies for their kindness, strength and the determination in following their dreams.

Where do you book ideas come from?

Many of my ideas come from songs or poems. I love photographs and paintings for inspiration. Creating a complete story from a snippet of an idea is one of the coolest things ever.

What's your favorite character you've created?

So far, I would have to say Nicholas from The Untamed Duke. He’s just so tortured and broken, yet beneath his darkness is a desire for love and a sense of honor.

Explain your creative process when you start a new book.

I’m a pantser! I have an outline of sorts, but I let the story take me where the characters demand to go. I love Pinterest so I do storyboards, collect songs on my Spotify, jot down notes in my journal. I recently discovered how helpful Enneagrams are for developing characters and I absolutely love it!

Is your book life a secret? Do you have support from family and friends?

Definitely not a secret! I have an amazing husband, daughter and son-in-law who support me as well as friends and family. There are a few family members who don’t approve, but I’m not really close with them anyway.

Does your significant other help with research ;) ?

He did with my third book! It’s a rock n’ roll romance and he was very helpful when it came to the rockstar mentality a young guy might have. He also helped with the music selections!

If you could give a helpful hint to a new indie author, what would that be?

Don’t let anything stop you from writing. Even if that story sits in a drawer for a while until the timing is right, don’t stop writing. I did not publish my first book until I was 50 years old—it’s never too late to follow your dream!

Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts?

Not really a fan of either lol! But if I must choose coffee it would be Dunkin Donuts.

What's your favorite type of ice cream?

Butter Pecan! I love that stuff!

What's your description of your ideal guy? (dream book boyfriend)

Tall and handsome with dark hair and grey or blue eyes. Muscular, but not overly so. Or course, he’s extremely wealthy and very alpha. He’s made his billions early in life so now he has all the time in the world to devote to me lol.
